Have y'all seen that new "Hicksian" Kia ad on the TeeVee?
I wouldn't go so far as to call it theft, but it's pretty clear that
the writer of the ad has at the very least listened to Bill's early
LPs quite a few times!
Basically, the jist of the bit is that this young fellow has a book
which tells him everything he needs to know to attract women. We soon
see, as he flips through the pages, that the only thing printed in the
book is the URL "KIA.COM" repeated on every page.
In the end, naturally, the young man's new Kia-made car attracts a
gorgeous lady into his life, which leads us to his culminating quip,
as he waves his book knowingly and winks to the camera, saying:
"Chicks Dig Readers!"
Sure, it could be pure coincidence, but marketing types are smarter
than you (and Hicks) may think; to be successful they must be able to
absorb EVERYTHING they see & hear and be ready to call it back up at
will. I would put money on this ad being penned by a Hicks follower
who deftly combined the song "Checks Dig Jerks" with the punch line
"Looks like we got ourselves a READER!" and blended them together with
an ironic twist.
