Marx Brothers in Australia - the early years

by John <mrjohnrobie@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 3, 2007 at 12:40 AM

Hi all,

I'm doing a bit of research on my grandfather's childhood in Australia
(born 1924). He's a Groucho fan and has been since he was a kid. His
memories of dates are pretty hazy, however.

When did the Marx Brothers achieved any sort of popularity in Sydney?
Are there any Australian fans who have some idea? Did the early movies
(Cocoanuts, Animal Crackers, Monkey Business) come out in Sydney
cinemas around the same time as in the U.S., or did it take a lot
longer for them to get here? Did the Marx Bros have any exposure
through Australian radio broadcasts?

Thanks for any help, or pointers in the right direction.

John
