There are three basic paths. DSL uses the Last Mile from your local
telco. You can get it from them, or sometimes from resellers such
as COVAD. [In some places COVAD provides their own Central Office
equipment; in most they "rent" from Ma.]
You can get cable data from Comcrap or whomever.
You can get cell-carrier wireless such as EVDO and maybe WiMAX.
Of the three, wireless will likely cost the most and be the slowest.
But if that's your only choice....
Cable has poorer upload speeds than DSL.
