My Zeide used to worry on Esther Sunday, because that was usually a day of
pogroms in Eastern Europe.
Why did the goyim put so much emphasis on Esther, he wanted to know. I
never
had the heart to correct him and we lived for many years in the
never-never
land of his interpretation of English. When it is raining hard, you wear a
drench coat, no? In the car you want to go faster, on the exhilarator you
step.
Outside it's cold you put yourself on a vool west. You want canned food
you
check the labels for OU in the suppermarket. (You could also buy lunch
food
there, too.)
But I like Esther Sunday when the Chinese restaurants and kosher delis are
the only stores open.
